DARKNESS is
FANGORIA's "DVD OF THE MONTH", Single-Disc nearly SOLD-OUT,
B-INDEPENDENT Review updated and our first Pod-Cast review!
Hey everyone,
We've received some great news and reviews this month! First up:
DARKNESS: THE VAMPIRE VERSION is
FANGORIA
Magazine's October "DVD OF THE MONTH"!
I just received word today from Michael
Gingold, managing editor of FANGORIA Magazine, that the DARKNESS 2-Disc
DVD set will be reviewed in the October issue of the world's
most read horror movie magazine! Even better, he said that it had
been deemed the "DVD OF THE MONTH" and congratulated us on a "great
job"! Obviously this is news that has us all smiling at 13th
Dream! HUGE Thanks to Mike and the whole Fango crew for
their unending support of our little movie! Be sure to keep your
eye out for FANGORIA ISSUE #258 on sale in October! PLUS, if you
head over to FANGORIA's website you can see a preview of Issue #258
with the blurb "DVD DUNGEON Remarkable supplements
shine through the DARKNESS...". Check
it out by clicking HERE!
DARKNESS Single-Disc Edition first printing nearly SOLD OUT!
This last
weekend Brian Krueger at Barrel Entertainment dropped me a line saying
that the Single-Disc has been selling so well that it was nearly
SOLD-OUT and they were going back to print more copies! Strangely
from all reports it
seems the 2-Disc normally WAY outsells the Single-Disc at every outlet
that both versions are available, but since BEST BUY is currently
carrying only the Single-Disc it seems their sales have have helped
really pushed its numbers! We're still hoping Best
Buy will eventually try carrying the 2-Disc on their shelves as well,
but hey, if the Single-Disc is selling that well for them we're not
going to complain too much!
B-INDEPENDENT.COM updates their review for DARKNESS!
One
of the best reviews the original version of DARKNESS ever received was
from our friends at B-INDEPENDENT.COM. Webmaster Allen
Richards recently updated the review to also include his evaluation of
the new
2-Disc DVD re-release, and well, I'll let his words below speak for
themselves. I really recommend clicking on the link to read the
full review as Allen and our mutual friend Bruce Holecheck
were the main supporters pushing for the inclusion of the original
version of the film in the 2-Disc DVD set. I was initially
reluctant to muddy the
waters by including both versions but they convinced me that if were
possible I should
do it for fans of the original release and in retrospect I realize they
were absolutely correct.
Thanks for the advice, support and encouragement guys. And thanks
to Allen and the entire B-INDEPENDENT crew for the great review and
continuing
support! Be sure to check out the full review (excerpted below)

From the original review:
"Leif Jonker's DARKNESS is everything John Carpenter's VAMPIRES should
have been, and then some. It's dark, brooding, frightening, raw,
exciting, disgusting...hell, I could bring in the editing team for
Webster's to throw around adjectives all day long for a week and it
still wouldn't be enough to do this film justice." From the DVD Review/Update:
"Looking back at Leif Jonker's microcinema masterpiece DARKNESS is like
watching a new movie... ...the movie is now even more rocking and
harder edged. Viewers who pick up the extremely affordable 2-disc
set of DARKNESS will see that Barrel has gone above and beyond the call
of duty to release the single best release for a film of this size an
scope ever. If you include commentaries, that's about [16]
hours of material on these two discs which far outguns any of Peter
Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS releases. If you're even simply a
casual fan of independent horror or underground cinema, you NEED to
pick up this disc. You won't find a better presentation for this sort
of movie anywhere."

DARKNESS first PODCAST review on SPLATTERCAST!
Those with the ability to listen to Podcasts
may want to head on over to the SPLATTERCAST website and check out
"Episode 10: Monster fist sex, and teenage vampires in Kansas!"
We believe it is our first "podcast" review -- at least it's the first
we've stumbled across. Gary Miller and I both cracked up as the
reviewer likeably goofs on the film at one point complaining about Jake
Euker's character saying "He's coming"
rather than explaining what "specific threat" is on the way, and
grumbles about how scenes like these are one of his movie pet
peeves. They take a few shots at the flick and only give us a 6
out of 10, but it was pretty
funny and entertaining stuff and they do end with an overall
recommendation for the release. (Plus he liked the ads I
assembled for Fangoria and Rue Morgue Magazines.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: It seems like the whole episode is
around an hour long and the review for DARKNESS doesn't start until
half-way through, following the review for FRANKENSTEIN'S BLOODY
NIGHTMARE, so either be patient or load it up and fast-forward till you
find it. You can download the episode by clicking HERE!
Thanks to the
entire SPLATTERCAST crew!
As always, you
can find all of our compiled
reviews on our REVIEWS
page by clicking HERE
or at the button up top! (If
anyone has seen other reviews out there on the web or in print form
that we've missed, please forward them onto me at info@13thdream.com -
thanks!)
That's it for now. Be sure to check back on October 13th for
our next regularly scheduled monthly update!
BeAst WisheS!
